GPS® technology evolves with astute contributions from our Scientific Advisory Board whose individual specializations ensure groundbreaking results.

Known for his ability to identify root causes of contamination, Dr. Sobek specializes in microbial and chemical issues affecting the built environment. An entrepreneur and inventor, he invented the novel Molecular Entrapment microbial detection technology, which he branded into the M-TRAP® air cassette. It is CDC/NIOSH verified to capture airborne influenza viruses and airborne Legionella pneumophila particles. He received his bachelor's degree in biology from California University of Pennsylvania; his master’s degree in plant pathology from Iowa State University, where he studied fusarium disease transmission in field crops; and his doctoral degree from Texas Tech University where he studied the ecology of desert molds.

Associate director for the Center for Optoelectronics and Optical Communications, Dr. Farahi is also a professor of physics and optics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. His areas of specialization include photonic waveguides, fiber optics, optical sensors, optoelectronics devices, optical imaging and optical metrology. He received his bachelor’s degree from Aryamehr (Sharif) University of Technology, his master’s degree from University of Southampton and his Ph.D. from University of Kent at Canterbury.

Dr. Young is a professor at the Center for Renewable Carbon at the University of Tennessee (UT). He specializes in data science and brings his vast knowledge on advanced analytical modeling, AI applications, statistical visualization and real-time predictive analytics. Dr. Young is also a Bredesen Center data scientist with Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from UT, and M.S. and B.S. degrees from the University of Wisconsin.

With over 25 years of experience and expertise in the field of engine particulate emissions, including real-world mobile source emissions, Dr. Storey consults on environmental issues related to VOCs and particulates. Dr. Storey recently retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he led the emissions characterization efforts at the Fuels, Engines, and Emissions Research Center. He holds a bachelor’s in chemistry from Harvard University, his master’s in environmental engineering from Duke University and his doctorate in environmental chemistry from the Oregon Graduate Institute of the Oregon Health & Science University.

A chemist from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the largest U.S. Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, Mr. Lewis has 30 years of experience in the area of analytical mass spectroscopy. Mr. Lewis has played a critical role in research efforts studying the effects of photo-, thermal-, and IED- degradation of latent fingerprints, especially in light of post-blast IED fragments and component assessments. Mr. Lewis received a B.S. in chemistry from Georgia Southern University and his master of chemistry from the University of Tennessee.
